ASA Resin

Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate, or ASA for short, is a modified form of SAN, where acrylic ester elastomer (aka rubber phase) has been introduced during copolymerization. The resulting modified resin is similar to SAN and ABS plastics, but with greater resistance to weathering, making it ideal for outdoor applications. ASA is available in different melt flow rates to allow for use in both extrusion and injection molding processes.

ASA is often used in exterior automotive parts, outdoor equipment, sporting equipment, pool and spa components, window components and general housing applications because of its fantastic UV stability. ASA is colorable but care must be taken to use proper UV stable color packages to ensure long-lasting color life if outdoor usage is expected.
